Tamrac 5613 Ultra Pro 13 Camera Bag (Black) Review

I had been using two different bags a Tamrac 5273 Expedition 3 back pack for most of my gear and then a Lowepro Nova 3 shoulder bag for my flash gear and misc accessories (lens hoods, flash jells, a 24-70mm lens and other goodies). I wanted a bag that would carry all of my equipment.
So here is what I put into the Ultra Pro 13:
Canon 40D with battery grip
Canon Digital Rebel XT with grip
Canon 24-70mm
Canon 50mm
Tamrac 17-55mm
Canon 70-200 f2.8
Canon 300mm f4
Lens Hoods for the above
1.4x tele extender
extension tube set
3 flashes
wireless flash triggers
Flash gels
flash modifiers
USB cables
misc cleaning supplies
memory cards
batteries
polarizing filter
cokin style split nd filter and holder
So it holds a lot of stuff and it is all easily accessible.
The only downside is that there could be more accessory storage. But that can be easily remedied with the Tamrac MAS and SAS addons.
If you are looking for a large size bag, this could be it!

Sigma 18-125mm f/3.5-5.6 DC IF Aspherical Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras Review

Sigma 18-125mm f/3.5-5.6 DC IF Aspherical Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras
Average Reviews:

This is one of those "it's great BUT ..." reviews. If you don't care about the BUT part, feel free to add a star or two to my rating above.
First, a little background. I'm been an amateur photographer for almost 20 years, 80% of which was spent with SLRs. The 300D is my first digital SLR, but my 5th SLR and my 8th or 9th camera. Currently, I have 4 other lenses for my 300D, all holdovers from when I used my 35mm Canon Elan. The lenses are 50 1.8, 70-210 3.5-4.5, 28-105 3.5-4.5, and an 85 1.8.
Now to the Sigma. The user posts at dpreview's forum and elsewhere say it's pretty sharp IF you have a good sample. Those with bad samples report that this lens tends to front-focus, i.e. the actual focus point is closer than the desired focus point.
There wasn't really any lens in its price range that had the reported sharpness, and if I received a bad sample, I could have Sigma fix it, so why not, right? After all, owners of this lens reported it's sharper than the 300D kit lens, and while not quite as sharp as the Canon 17-85, it's less than 1/2 the price. (I bought mine before the Tamron 18-200 came out.)
When I received my 18-125, I was very happy with the build quality. It's a solid lens with smooth zooming action, and an included removable hood. The lens doesn't have Canon's nice USM's silent and ultra-quick focusing, and the Sigma's focus ring moved when focusing so watch where you leave your fingers, but otherwise no complaints.
But first, I had to make sure my sample didn't have the front-focusing issue. Since the DOF is narrower the closer the focus distance, I did all of my focus/DOF tests in the house and of nearby subjects outdoors. The focus point did seem closer than the desired subject but not closer enough to knock the subject outside the DOF so I accepted it. After all, the pictures were nice and sharp, even wide open, if you don't look too closely at the corners. So I was happy.
Then a month after I got the lens, my wife was in an "adventure race", where I shot hundreds of photos, all with this lens. Most were sharp but the ones of my wife far away (>50m) were noticeably less sharp. Looking more closely, I see that intermediate objects, e.g. the grass, in tele shots with the Sigma appear sharper than my wife. Rats! Does my sample have the front-focusing problem or did my 300D somehow focused on the closer objects?
ASAP after we got home, I took my Sigma out for some controlled tests, along with my 70-210 set at 125mm f5.6. Dozens and dozens of shots later, it's clear my Sigma has the front-focusing problem, but only noticeable with shots of subjects beyond ~50 meters, getting worse and worse with distance.
I pack it up and send it to Sigma's repair center, along with a note detailing the problem and how it only is apparent with tele shots of distant subjects. The lens comes back unrepaired with a sentence on the repair ticket saying the focus and DOF tests passed "ok", and a reference to the included CD. I load it and there are only 2 pics of 2 different test patterns, apparently indoors and only a few meters from the camera.
I call Sigma service, talked to a bunch of people, finally got routed to the head of the repair center, an apparently very busy man who implies it's my camera that's faulty and also that I didn't provide enough info to let them know the problem, i.e. I should have included sample pics. I mention I included a detailed explanation and his reply is, I kid you not, the techs are busy and don't have time to read people's letters!
Getting nowhere with them on the phone, I go home and shoot about 50 photos of a carefully selected scene with the Sigma and my Canon lens above, burned them all to a CD, write a more detailed letter, and send everything to Sigma.
2 weeks later, the lens comes back. Unrepaired. Again. The note says "infinity" focus and DOF tests passed "ok" and to see the pics on the included CD. I look at the 6 photos on the CD - 3 at 18mm and 3 at 125mm - and, unbelievably, the subject was a Sigma sign mere meters from the photographer, with distant trees in the background out of focus, of course.
Clearly we have a disagreement on what "infinity" or even "distant" means.
I will send the lens in a 3rd time but this experience has been so horribly frustrating, I know I will never buy another Sigma lens again.
If you buy this lens, make sure to immediately test the lens with close AND distant subjects as above, and return it immediately to the retailer if you have a bad sample. Good luck!

Freeloader Pro Solar Charger Review

Freeloader Pro Solar Charger

I've had it for a week now & I'm not impressed. This thing takes forever to charge. If you charge it with the USB cable instead of solar power, it takes 20 hours. If you charge it with the solar panels it takes FOREVER. I had mine in the brightest window of my house facing the sunrise for 4 days straight and it only went up 1 of 4 bars. 1 full charge is enough to give an iPhone a full charge once. Mine HAS to be broken though, I can't imagine it was built to require over 2 weeks of constant sunshine just to get a full charge.

Tokina 12-24MM F/4.0 Pro II Zoom Lens for Digital Canon SLR Cameras Review

Tokina 12-24MM F/4.0 Pro II Zoom Lens for Digital Canon SLR Cameras

I received my Tokina 12-24mm DXII wide angle lens very quickly. I could not wait to put it through some paces even though I was hesitant at first to try anything but Nikon lenses. I use a Nikon D90 and this lens is flawless with it. The auto focus is very quiet and responsive. I ran it through the gamut of fstops at every setting from 12mm to 24mm. My results indicate that it is a little soft wide open but quickly sharpens as you progress through the settings. At 14-15 mm seems to be very sharp. The colors are true and vibrant. I took over a hundred pictures at church, mostly outside, both in the shade and sunshine. I did not see any distortion or chromatic aberrations. If there were any, my camera must have corrected them automatically. I probably should mention I compared this lens to my Nikon 18-105mm with VR, side by side and picture for picture, at all settings. The Tokina is actually sharper at 18mm than the Nikon 18-105. Up to and including 24mm, they both were very good. This was a pleasant surprise to me and I would not hesitate to recommend this lens to anyone who might being trying to decide whether to purchase it.

This is a very fundamental review on the D700. It's basically an introduction to photography on some level. When it finally gets into explaining the camera's features, it just names them and goes way too fast. I did not really find this product all that helpful.
Lucky for me, I had the foresight to also purchase the Volume 2 Advanced Tips DVD.
This is far more helpful in explaining what you can actually do with this camera.

Kingston 4 GB Class 4 SDHC Flash Memory Card SD4/4GBET Review

Kingston 4 GB Class 4 SDHC Flash Memory Card SD4/4GBET
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There are some things to consider before buying this particular card or any other 32gb SDHC card on the market:
1. This is NOT an ideal card for a digital SLR like a D80, D90, Rebel XT, etc... That is because it is a class 4 device. The class of a SDHC cards has to do with how fast they read and write files, not how much storage they have. For a digital SLR, you should purchase a class 6 SDHC card most of the time. Class 6 cards will allow you to take 'bursts' of photos and not be limited by the card's capacity to write them. Also class 4 cards are slower reading data, meaning they will take longer to upload files to your computer. Upload speed is convenient, especially when loading large batches of files.
2. This card has far more storage than most people will need for their digital camera. Unless you like to keep all your photos on a SDHC card and never move them to your computer, or are a high volume photographer, there is very little need for more than about 8gb of storage space for most caeras. The possible exception to this is if you have a professional SLR that shoots files in the 16-20mb range--but if you do, you'll likely want a class 6 card anyway. If all you intend to use this card for is a digital camera, save yourself a lot of money and buy a PNY 8GB SDHC Card. If you're worried about running out of space on a vacation, buy a few of them. Otherwise you run the risk of having 'all your eggs in one basket.' If one card fails, you lose all your pictures instead of only a portion of them.
This card is fantastic for use in a video camcorder capable of writing to an SDHC card. (Check with the manual first to insure that a class 4 card will be fast enough first). It is also perfect as extra storage for an ultra portable computer or net book like the Asus EEE pc. Another great application would be as added storage to a personal media player or MP3 player equipped with a SDHC slot such as the Cowon D2.
There are other good 32gb SDHC cards on the market, some at cheaper price points than the Kingston card. IMHO, brand matters very little with something like a SDHC card, since they all are made pretty much the same way. None of the brands currently offering them (Transcend, PNY, Kingston) have high fail rates with their other products, so I believe they are all pretty similar. What you decide to buy will depend on whether you trust a particular brand, or who has the lowest price. All of them will work equally well.
